We just got the Cyclone 7 and I am having a couple of glitches.....When I import my Survey Control It only shows up in the Modelspace? Not the Controlspace...(I found a workaround for that) But when I register it is giving me a ton of errors? Auto (unlabeled)? But when I check the scan controlspace they are fine? Then when I try to mesh it gives me a error of ( A point cloud without surface normal) Any help would be great....Thanks a ton
"A point cloud without surface normal" : Right click on scan in the Cyclone navigator and select "estimate normals" . It must resolve the problem ( it may take a while depending on your scan size)
You can also set up Cyclone preferences to do this automatically when you import data. As well as applying images to scans and whether or not to use survey mode.
In all science, error precedes the truth, and it is better it should go first than last. ~Hugh Walpole
we have had a ton of issues with 7, email me and ill tell you workarounds and solutions we have had. Estimate normals was one of them, registration is another.
the problem with the control file is almost certainly the header you gave the taget in the text importer, It needs to be set to targetId not pointId as you have updated the software you Have possibly lost your previous defaults.
Make sure you set your preference to compute missing normals on import For C10 users also the compute colour on import and lastly if you do not set up over known control try setting in the scan tab, Surveymode to no.
I have 2 laptops with Cyclone 6 on them, 1 with 7 on it, I THOUGHT I made the changes to make them the same but I did miss that, and what do ya know that was it!!
It appears to us that Cyclone is being tailored for use by surveyors as opposed to those of us who use laser scanning as an engineering tool.
Some of the changes to Cyclone 7 are a backwards step..........for example, downloading every point as opposed to a limited number of points after each scan, and the reason we were given for this was......'people were forgetting to download all the points back in the office'.
I agree with both of you. I am a surveyor and I do not use the scanner to traverse. I use my totalstation to shoot the targets. In the plants where I work it is too much to set a point for every scan, and we also work in the robot cells and in the screenguard above the main floor. I like scanning at 1/25 of the points and loading them later. Now i have to run the estimate normals before I can finish registering. Which takes longer, and the meshing takes forever. Seems kinda backwards to me. Thanks for all the help and you fellas on here are great!!
