First Video - Bridge at Burra, SA

Postby mjankor » Sun Mar 07, 2010 1:41 pm

Hi all.

Here's my first test video. It's incomplete and has no soundtrack, annotations, etc at the moment. It's also pretty rough and has the lovely Cyclone flickering effect as well as some horrible RGB colouring due to the very fluctuating light levels while photographing. (mostly overexposure) :(

Just thought people might be interested.

Scanner used was a C10 for photos and cloud data.
Cyclone used for animation.

Update: Youtube vid updated. See below.

How did you do the bit where the cross-section is animated? Was that a compilation of frames?

Thanks

I used the 'Snapshot" (I think that's what it's called in the file menu) about 60 times. :D

Then compiled them into a short movie, which was added to the whole.

Looks really nice.

The flickering is usually due to a non unified point cloud.

Did you unify the data?

Yeah, it's unified. The flickering has always occurred for me when moving in and out from the point cloud, as Cyclone loads a new set of points.

I'm rendering it again to remove the sharp turn and with all points loaded at once. We'll see how that goes.

Ok, here's the final version. It could still be improved as it's not as smooth as it could be. There's also a bit of person noise in it (see if you can spot it :D ). Definitely not going to re-render it though.

I think you've done a great job on using video to enhance the selling features of scan data. The biggest thing that impresses me is the data value. The is a uniform amount of face value on the objects and little shadowing on rotating. The cross-sections give full detail and undersides prove the field time and planning. There's more to this than just a video and many clients would be impressed by the deliverable I'm sure...

Remixed version, now including some modelling I've been dabbling with.

This one isn't optimised for viewing at Youtube resolution, so some of it can be a bit hard to see. (the thin slice).

One day I'll finish it with completed models, a better, less jerky camera path, and music, lots of music. :D
