Nice idea! The one problem I have found with the iPad in this context is that it is almost impossible to view the screen outdoors, let alone direct sunlight. A protective film such as the Zagg invisible shields does reduce some of the glare though.

Presumably this would work with any combination of wifi-enabled scanner and smartphone/PDA/ebook reader that has a web browser?

The Riegl VZ-400 can be controlled in the same way (useful for zooming in to photos to check exposure, etc.) and I believe the Leica C10 can too.

Does anyone actually use this in the real-world?

Does anyone actually use this in the real-world?

We use an Ipod Touch to operate our Faro Photon (the scans all save to its internal memory) - much nicer to carry around then a huge laptop
